Back in October, an online public school moved their central office to Springfield Ohio, and since then those enrolled from Springfield has doubled.
TRECA Digital Academy is one of the twenty-seven registered online alternative schools in Ohio. Students are able to attend the school or take online courses through the various school districts through out the state.
While these courses can be taken at home, this school differs from home school in the fact that it includes state certified teachers and textbooks for the courses. The students use a computer and a netbook to complete their courses and they can work on them anywhere that they can find a Verizon wireless signal. The students must pass all of the same graduation tests as their peers do who attend traditional high school. Some of these online students are able to participate in sports, marching band and other extracurricular programs, if they qualify.
This has been a great solution for those students that just want to focus on their studies and get them done. They do not have to deal with bullying and other high school drama like they used to in the traditional high school. It is also a great option for those that are not able to get to a school, whether it is because of distance, finances, or not wanting to attend the school in the district that they live.
Without any advertising on their part, there school continues to increase in the numbers of students that enroll. It stands as a testament that online education is not going to go anywhere. It fits better with the busy lifestyles that many students struggle with today. The flexibility of being able to be in a environment that is good for each individual students learning rather then in a traditional classroom can help students focus more, and be distracted much less by the stress that can come in a high school.
